This year has already been a buzz of busyness for me, and I am so delighted to introduce a new GiGi Approved product to all of you Divas that is now available from Savvy Derm Diva™ herself! It is interesting to know that 100 years ago, the boom of the beauty revolution started and mass production of goods became available for the first time. There were so many inventions back then that are still utilized today such as synthetic soaps, compacts, and indelible lipsticks? Cupids bow, anyone? In particular, though, I want to discuss soap. It wasn’t until after 1916 that soaps were made out of synthetic ingredients and are currently known as “detergents” today. Typically, back then, soap was made out of animal and vegetable fats but there was a tremendous shortage of these natural ingredients secondary to WWI and then again after WWII. The lack of these items forced the creation of synthetic soaps that we are all familiar with today.
Interestingly, we are now converting back and wanting what we originally had, which are all-natural products. With consumers demanding more of these types of goods today, there is a selection of fantastic commodities that are available which are popular as ever and, better yet, now cruelty-free.
So, let’s get the skinny about soap. Soap is an excellent tool to remove the “dirt” from our skin that presents as grease or oil. We all know that water and oil do not mix. The soap is the connector as it includes surfactants (the part that creates bubbles), which help reduce the surface tension of water and allow the oil, grease, and water to interact. Voila, you can then wash all the dirt away!
