Ask the Diva – April 2021

April 2021:

Dear Savvy Derm Diva,

Can you please tell me the difference between dry and dehydrated skin?

Feeling Flaky – Dana V.

Dear Feeling Flaky,

This is a great question that many people do not know the difference. Both can be dull, flaky, sensitive, feel tight, and maybe even itch. Dry skin is more of a biological skin type that is usually dry all over. This skin type typically responds best to oil-rich products like certain serums in addition to a rich barrier cream. As far as dehydrated skin, it can happen in all skin types and be more a combination of oily and dry skin. Worse yet, you may even experience acne. Dehydrated skin responds best to water-rich products. A Hyaluronic acid serum is a great adjunct treatment prior to your moisturizers for either skin type.

Diva Tip: If your skin is not improving, make sure you schedule a visit with a Board-Certified Dermatologist to get it evaluated.

Dear Savvy Derm Diva,

I am finally looking into getting laser treatments to my face to reduce the redness, irregular color, and decrease pore size. Do you recommend a cost-effective laser that could do all of that at the same time?
